Why Your Professionalism Should Stay On Facebook

Facebook-Thumbs-DownGone are the days when people said, “It’s just Facebook” and there is nothing to take seriously when it comes to FB. Yeah, it’s not true anymore. The truth is people judge you on and off Facebok, Twitter, blogs (ahem) and so on. If you are in a field where people have access to your thoughts, it could actually hurt you, your business or how people view you professionally.

Spazzing Out

We all have had bad days. There are times when we want to throw a “fuck you” around and “I hate people” comments. The problem with venting on FB is almost everyone can see it and if you are going off in a place where everyone can see you, it can be detrimental. You wouldn’t go off in the middle of your place of work or business… would you?! For example, if you run a business that is a service, where you have customers as your “friends” on FB, talking trash about other people is not the boujie way! In fact, it’s tacky and messy honey.

I would never add people who supervise me or people who I do business with on FB. In fact, most of the people who are my friends on FB (surprise surprise) have limited access to things like my pictures and even status updates. Most people probably just see funny pictures and blog posts. That all they need to see and gone are the days when I vented about anything. If I want to vent, I write a short story, kill characters and that is it. Going completely off and acting out on a social network is attention seeking and quite frankly lame. This is unacceptable for a boujie girl, so it shouldn’t be for other adults.

If I see you going off about one customer, why wouldn’t I think one day your status isn’t about me? I’m good. Professionalism should be carried everywhere you go. If you want to vent, get a Twitter page, not connected to your brand and make it private. No one wants to read that mess… well we do because it’s entertaining but if you want to protect your brand, so refrain and tweet.

Realizing this is a shot fired… 😉
